What is it?

The postpartum window is recognized as a crucial and sacred time that follows after a woman has given birth. A woman’s postpartum period lasts anywhere between 6 to 8 weeks, or even up to a year after birth, all depending on mom’s state of health, complications, or trauma that may have been experienced during pregnancy, birth, or afterward.

They say 42 days of postpartum care will acquaint to 42 more years of strong and good health. A woman’s whole system is in deep recovery, change, and adjustment during the postpartum window, as tissues are rebuilding, organs and bodily systems are moving back into place, and excess fluids and metabolic wastes excreted. My job is to make sure that mom has the support and care that she needs, so that she can then give and provide fully for baby, from a place of restfulness and ease.

Conscious, Ayurvedic postpartum care involves taking a look at the mother’s individual needs, through daily consultations and making adjustments, as needed, regarding her diet, routine, massage, herbal preparations and baths.

Services

Services may vary depending on the client, their needs, and desires.

The following information is a general idea of what can be offered.

Ideally we will discuss what your wishes and desires are in detail before baby arrives!

Daily Check-Ins

When I arrive, I’ll sit down with you and have a little check-in. I’ll ask you how you’re feeling, check the state of your Agni (metabolism), and ask about baby’s state as well. These check-ins serve to make any adjustments and changes in food preparation and herbal protocols as needed.

Education

A workshop can be given to you and your family to provide more information on the benefits and importance of Ayurvedic postpartum care. This can be really helpful for both the parents and myself. The more understanding you have, the more receptive you and your family will be to the care and suggestions I provide. I want to reiterate though, that my job is to adjust and accommodate to your needs, always.

Diet

Ideally before the birth, I’ll get to know a little bit more about your dietary preferences, likes and dislikes. This way, during your postpartum window, you’ll be nourished with the appropriate foods for your individual needs whilst enjoying some of your favorite flavors and dishes. The daily check-ins will help me gauge what is appropriate to prepare for your meals as well as herbal teas and sweets. The state of your digestion/metabolism may differ greatly from one day to another.

Massage

Abhyanga is an Ayurvedic full body oil massage that I can teach you to give to yourself and to your baby. It is extremely beneficial for calming the nervous system. It’s grounding and reduces anxiety, it aids in digestion, improves restful sleep, strengthens bond between baby and parent, and is great for the skin.

Home Remedies

Home remedies can include sitz baths or herbal vulva/vaginal baths to help support healing, specific care and remedies for cesarean births (belly births), herbal teas for metabolism and lactation support, soft lights and sounds (to avoid over stimulation of nervous system), and more.

Meditation and Mindfulness

We can explore pranayam (breathing practices/exercises) to support with restfulness and sleep, as well as reducing any stress or anxiety you may experience after birth.

Community Support

If desired, it can be helpful to organize community support from friends and family and brainstorm different ways in which they can help during this period. For example, suggesting friends and family contribute to helping out with a chore around the house when coming to pay a visit! Or maybe setting up a mealtrain! It’s about finding creative ways to ask for help from our community. I can help support you and your family in finding structured ways for doing this.

Routine

Establishing routine is a crucial and vital part of postpartum care. We will be working together to find a routine that feels good to you, and that honors each week of the sacred window with lots of rest, slowness, warmth, and simplicity. Routine will help you regain strength and build your tissues properly, as well as provide a stable and nurturing environment on which you and your baby can count on.

Client Experiences

“Claudia has been an invaluable part of my postpartum journey. After giving birth, I unfortunately developed trombose in my leg, which made it even more difficult to navigate this new chapter of becoming a mom. I really could not have managed without the help of Claudia.

Claudia's presence was calming and reassuring, not only for me but also for my daughter Frida. It was heartwarming to see the connection Frida had with Claudia.

With the stress of this new journey, Claudia provided help with a multitude of things: delicious and nutritious meals, helping me get a routine, caring for Frida and the list goes on. In moments of stress or worries she was there to listen and provide calming exercises. I could not recommend this service more ! I think every parent would benefit from the postpartum help Claudia provides.”
