Ayurveda and End-of-Life Care

As an end-of-life doula, I am here to work with people who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness and accompany them in this transitional moment of their lives, to provide emotional support, ease, and comfort. There is no specific time frame nor specific protocol that must be followed, as the circumstances will always vary depending on the person and their family.

What Ayurveda allows me to bring into this experience of companionship, is perception. Ayurveda is about how we perceive and observe the world around us, so that we can understand what is needed for restoring balance, peace, and harmony. I am here to observe what is needed, and to find creative ways of offering this. Part of observation is acknowledging the boundaries and limitations of those we work with and their families. I am there to observe you as the unique individual that you are, and to find, together, what will work for you.

I am here to listen to you when you want to be heard, to see you when you want to be seen, to sing when you’d like to be sung to, to hold your hand when you’d like to be held, or to laugh when you’d like to be laughed with. I am a companion, and a support. We are all on the journey home, some quicker than others, and it is my honor and my pleasure to walk this part of the journey with you.

Consultations

Ayurvedic consultations and check-ins can be offered to assess the state of the client, whether it is through the client themselves or through their family. This can help me stay up to date on any changes and whether I need to make any adjustments to the support I am providing.

Diet and Herbs

Through the consultations, I will be well-informed of the client’s state of digestion and elimination, as well as any symptoms of pain, nausea etc.. If the client and their family desires, I can provide dietary support through cooking, recipes, and herbal protocols (approved by the General Practitioner) to help improve proper elimination, and any uncomfortable symptoms.
