What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a five thousand year-old system of medicine that originated in the beautiful land of India. It’s wisdom and teachings were initially only verbally transmitted through poetry and song, until 2500 years ago when it was recorded in the written form of Sutras. To this day, Ayurveda remains very much alive and thriving both in and outside of its birth place, offering humanity not just an alternative way of healing, but a completely different way of living and observing life altogether.
Utilizing a variety of healing methods that include: herbs, therapies, natural home remedies, meditation, yoga, lifestyle and dietary recommendations, Ayurveda targets both the causes of the imbalance as well as the symptoms. Additionally, its holistic approach focuses on the well-rounded balance between body, mind, and consciousness, recognizing that they’re all deeply intertwined and affect one another.
Ayurveda also recognizes each person as a unique individual. Observing closely at how the five core elements of space, air, fire, water, and earth are expressing in each person, Ayurveda offers a completely personalized protocol depending on the individual’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual composition.
The word Ayurveda translates into “life-knowledge” or, “the science of life.” Essentially at its core, it is about how life is observed and perceived both within and without. When used consciously, Ayurveda works as an incredible tool to bring balance and flow to the natural changes that occur throughout one’s life. This is truly a science and art of awareness which has been gifted down through generations for all of humanity. It is our gift and blessing to study, learn, and practice this ancient wisdom.
